Questions?

Do I need to bring my own bike?
We've discovered that avid mountain bikers prefer to bring their own bikes, however, it is your choice. Presently we stock bikes with, front suspension, helmets and gloves.

How fit do I need to be and how difficult is the terrain?

Fitness is not a problem. We want to make your journey as enjoyable as possible. You do need lots of enthusiasm, passion and motivation. You can challenge yourself or take it easy on the more technical areas. You won't get left behind. You can always travel in the support vehicle for a breather or get out your tramping boots and walk.

If you are worried about fitness, get out prior to your trip and do some biking/walking. Your body will thank you for it.

What is the weather like?
New Zealand weather over the summer (November to March) can range from 0°C tonn over 30°C. Our tours take you through the High Country sheep stations, in the mountains and foothills. This means the weather can sometimes change quickly, we call it ‘Four Seasons in one Day’. The support vehicle can always be called upon! Occasionally we may have to alter our plans or cancel a tour altogether if the weather is extreme.

What clothing do I need?
Each day we will inform you of the riding terrain, the weather conditions and the clothing you should carry with you. Please see our list of essentials and recommendations.

What about food?
Our meals reflect the High Country lifestyle, with homebaking and local produce. All complimented with some great New Zealand wine and beer*.

What if I’m vegetarian or have other special requirements?
No problem... just let us know. We will cook you up a storm. You will be treated to the finest wholesome Kiwi cuisine and hospitality.

What is the accommodation like?
Our accommodation ranges from the basic to the luxurious. The location changes each night and varies from renovated shearer's quarters to authentic musterer's huts, ski lodges, cottages and chalets. The musterer's hut is spartan; the value is in the charm and location! The lodges and chalets are rustic. Each place has facilities that every mountain biker needs, hot showers, good food, firm beds, and of course a place to clean the bike.

I'm not sure if I'm up to the rafting?
The mighty Rangitata has rapids with grades from 1 to 5. It starts as a gently flowing river and progressively increases along with your confidence. You will have very experienced guides who look after you all the way. If you are not happy about running a rapid you can opt out and walk around that rapid, jumping back into the raft on the other side. Please visit the Rangitata Rafts site for more information www.rafts.co.nz if you prefer not to raft, alternative arrangements can be made.

How big are the groups?
Our tours offer an exclusive service, providing a high degree of personal attention and care. We therefore prefer to limit the number of clients on each tour. Please contact us for further information if you wish to make a group booking.

What else can I do in the district?
The Mt Somers, Methven and the High Country area offers a multitude of activities. Golf, hot air ballooning, horse riding, abseiling, fishing, bush walks, Garden Tours and Eco Tours - Let us arrange it for you.
